About Me.

Our social media platforms can be quite telling of our personalities, yet we feel wrongfully accused when people judge us based on our social media personalities.

Have you checked someone out via his/her Facebook profile after the first meeting? Determining a person whom you've just met, a player because of multiple solo photos with girls, a party girl because of her multiple going out photos or high maintenance because of her album titled "Modelling"?

There was even rumours that potential employers check out our Facebook profiles before hiring! I've checked with HR contacts and they say they do, but only a minority will take time to screen Facebook profiles.

But we all know that social media is a platform to show off right?
So does it reflect us truly?

My blog can be pretty telling of my personality, my faithful readers have written to me, telling me so. They are close, but not entirely accurate.

I fell in love with him over Powerpoint because he's SO funny!

Inspired by a friend who writes at www.tickledbylife.com, it really did dawn upon me that we spend way toooooo much of our lives creating Powerpoint presentations.

So here's mine. May it represent me a little better. May the Powerpoint be more telling than our social media platforms.

One of my favourite experiences in Barcelona was the Museum of Ideas and Inventions.

Filled with quirky things, ideas and innovative (but sometimes useless) items, it was a fun way to spend an afternoon.
One must weigh herself after 2 weeks of pigging.

A relief to know i'm Kate Moss's weight! There's also the weight of Yoda and Frodo.
Silly inventions can be bought at the gift shop too, i was tempted but knew it is actually quite useless! They had a bubble wrap calender for 17 Euros, where you can pop a bubble a day, hard for the bubble wrap maniac!

You need to experience winter to know almost everyone tucks their hands in their pockets to keep warm if they aren't wearing gloves.

So here comes the invention...
Not for sale are also inventions like a TV remote control that is shaped like a wand! It looks like magic as you channel surf with a flick of the wrist.
I think the best ideas and inventions are created to serve a need.
Ingenious!
Imagined by Pep Torres who wrote (i adapted his copy) and created every item (not photographed here) by hand, the relatively small museum featured a resident exhibition that shows normal day-to-day life over the next 300 years through a series of inventions that stimulate reflection about our present.

The below are some of my favourites but not the entire exhibition.

A Tour of the Future by Pep Torres

With both men and women being more promiscuous, relationships are short lived. Instead of feeling the the empty spot where she/he used to occupy, by 2158 onwards, nobody who had any sense would buy a double mattress that could not be split into two. Therefore, Puzzle Bed would be the future. The bed can be split into two to become singles so no worries if your jilted lover decides to scoot with her/his half.
As if driven by the force of gravity, fashion, which had progressively lowered trouser waists during the 21st century, uncovering navels and underwear reached its height of expression with the Japanese-born Barcelona designer, Nokito Mas (i love how Pep's fictional character is a Japanese particularly for this fashion trend of the future).
21st century's fashion, low waist jeans with no visible panty line.
Pep imagined the future fashion concept will be called Tube Fashion, where that cloth is removed from the crotch area leaving just two legs and giving a total view of the wearer's underwear.

Pep must have not seen the below image already circulating over the Internet 5 years ago.
Not surprisingly, the photo source claimed its the fashion trend in Japan.

However, wittingly, Pep predicts that by 2095, the legs will join up to the waist again and fashion came back to the traditional high waisted trousers.

If he wasn't an inventor, i'd say he can be a fashion designer!

At the end of 2150, the growing number of people living alone will spring up fried eggs pre-packaged and ready to eat. With houses ridiculously expensive and the hectic pace of life, everyone will eat precooked dishes to save time and the extra space needed for a kitchen can be dispensed with.
As society evolves to one that is only concerned about themselves, Pep imagined Plant 'O' Metic, an ingenious flowerpot that is able to move around by itself in search of the precious sun rays whenever the owner goes on holiday.
In 2230, data storage capacity had reached its limit on all the materials tried to date. The growing demand for memory and processing power for the new holographic and material transmission devices marked a turning point in technology which enabled a series of advances to be made for which the existing storage media were insufficient.

Brain tissue would be kept stable so that it provided the almost unlimited memory and processing power. Even though existing memory was carefully erased from the tissue (provided by anonymous donors), cases arose in which the tissue attained a certain degree of self-awareness and asked itself not 'who am i' but 'what am i'. This will trigger an ethical debate.

This was my favourite "imagination of Pep" and the only photograph i took of the entire Future exhibition.
With the terrible eating habits of millions of people, there'll be the Happy Mirror as a way of increasing self-acceptance and self-esteem before leaving home. The invention consisted of a slightly convex mirror that stylised the reflected image to the desired degree, using a control that adjusted the mirror's curvature.

No one will buy mirrors that can't be manipulated in the future. Already in the 21st century, men are putting on make-up, girls can't do without make-up and there's a new addiction. Photoshop.
And because of the Happy Mirror becoming a standard item that was present in all homes, the difference became even starker between those who devoted their lives to staying extremely thin and those who were simply a little plumper.

In 2278, there'll be the Weight Ticket system for public transport where people paid by their weight since the amount of energy required to carry 50 kg was not the same as that required to carry 100 kg.

From then on, the people who used public transport bought 1000kg tickets. Before inserting the ticket in the machine, a platform weighed the passenger and subtracted the weight from the card. The less you weighed, the more trips you had for your ticket.

During this period, it is common for politicians to promise reductions in the price per person kilogramme during election campaigns.

Dead Fly Art

I thought i was pretty cool by putting a dead Austrian fly under a fry.
Then i saw Swedish photographer Magnus Muhr's work and i pale in comparision. Captions are my own.

At least we know the European flys are alot bigger and slower than the Asians. Asians are skinny and fast, hard to kill. I'll get a better chance in creating art with cockroaches. Where can i catch some?
It's my birthday today!
My mum is busy with the house work because it's a party later.
Like Father, like Son.
We hired a pony for the party.
The first guest to arrive is my Uncle.
We played games.

There were too many flys, the toilet got clogged.

Then we took a trip to the museum.

While my parents stayed home to clean.

I turn 21, and my friends took me to Geylang.

Ah, what a Birthday.

Ingenius Business Ideas

2010's The Crazies was another predictable B grade zombie movie. When you think of 'crazy', it has a negative connotation. Albert Einstein was labeled as crazy by his neighbours. They saw him doing things that people wouldn't normally do and thus outsized him as a misfit.

He didn't invent the lightblub, Thomas Edison (his teacher thought his ideas were crazy) did.

He invented E=mc2 which caused me much blood and sweat during exams.

So yes, we needed help from The Crazies.

In our modern day, we also have the crazies. The ones who had the guts, who had the vision and came up with ingenious business ideas.

1) Debonaire Debt Collectors
In Singapore, our loan sharks are also very innovative. No more vandalism on the walls or in the lifts which is a criminal offense but junk mail in the form of hell notes and funeral cloth that is freaky yet sends a message through to shame that neighbour to O$P$? It's a grey area just like the many advertisements from property agents, NTUC and Macdonalds we get. Provided it doesn't include a threat to the innocent neighbour, which is very uncool and won't win you an innovative award.

Spain does it a little classier.

If someone owes you money, you can launch a "smart" attack with a stylish top hat and tailcoat, no less.

If only they took a step further and send eccentric men
like Willy Wonder hot on your heels.
A man like Manfred Gunther will leech on you like a shadow. He follows you closely behind in public, and because it is a gaining popularity service in Spain and Portugal where the privately owned company employs more than 500 debt collectors, people will recognise what the man in a smart suit is following you for.

And there is no way to make him disappear unless you punch him, outrun him or not leave your house.

Otherwise, you can always pay your debt.

Then, there is the SWAT style in America.

And there's a debt collector's newest weapon....Facebook.
Don't go round collecting "friends".

No wonder notorious hacker group Anonymous vows to kill Facebook this Nov 5.
2) YouSendShit

That wasn't its name, but i thought that name embodies www.shitsenders.com better, a parody of popular file sharing service YouSendIt.

Sweet revenge at its finest, you can send a pile of shit to your mean boss, nasty neighbour (my neighbour complains at the slightest thing!), the ex-boyfriend who cheated, the player who broke your heart, the bitch who back-stabbed you or the best friend who will really enjoy a good smelly laugh.
It comes in many varieties and even a special of the month. What these ingenious people do is they go to local farms and collect your shit of choice.
They then mail it to your intended victim and they will hopefully happily rip into the "surprise" excited to see who sent them a present. Only when the stench hits once opened will they see an anonymous greeting card that says, " You've been pooped! Dig in to find out whom."

Victim will then have to dig in, curious and furious to know who only to find another card buried deep saying "WE'LL NEVER TELL."

Here're some testimonials from customers

I sent a pile of shit to my neighbor that lets her dog shit in everybody's yard. She must have gotten the message because now she carries a plastic bag around with her and actually cleans up after the dog. She never did that before. Thanks for a job well done. Mary - San Francisco, CA

I spend a lot of money entertaining customers only to get shit on with "well let me think about it and I'll get back to you" never to hear from them again or they are always in a meeting or out of the office when I follow up with a call. This is the perfect inexpensive little follow up gift for these assholes. I'm sure they have screwed over many people by leading them on so they would never know who it came from. I have sent several of these packages right to their place of business and only hope their secretary is the one who opens it up so she can tell everybody else in the company by the water cooler.
Every Salesman in Philadelphia PA

Although I am not usually a vengeful person I've been shit on for the last time when I was just ripped off by another auto mechanic shop that charged me $490.00 for brakes and a tune up I probably didn't even need. I sent them the biggest package of shit you had and I don't care which one of them opens it they all deserve it as far as I'm concerned. Melissa M. - Miami, FL

I sent my ex-boyfriend a pile of cow dung about 3 weeks ago and last week one of this friends came up to me in a club and told me about it and asked if it was me who sent it. I said that's sick and no it wasn't me. I asked if he was mad and his friend said he's really pissed off and it's driving him nuts trying to find out who sent it, he's going around accusing everyone. He's pissed off and going nuts accusing friends, you could say that's like a two for one sale. FANTASTIC!
Amber San Diego CA

Oooo...tempting, tempting. With the USD so low, while shopping up a storm on iPhone apps, Asos and Ebay, perhaps throw some shit in too?

3) Japan's Break-Up Service

Apparently, the obsessed Japanese are so cordial that even when breaking up, they cannot bear to say it in your face. Thus spun the business idea of a break-up service which inspired Adidas's ad.

Unfortunately, i am unable to find the official website to engage such services to verify the claim...i'd still would believe it's true. After all, anything is possible in Japan. Other than the video below, here is a legit business in Japan, The Splitters Uppers.

Extremely understanding to employees, there is a Tokyo based company Hime, offers staff aged under 24 one break up recovery day each year. Once they hit 25, they are entitled to 2 days off and 30 and above get 3 full days off! CEO Hiradate says that "Women in their 20s can find their next love quickly, but it's tougher for women in their 30s, and their break-ups tend to be more serious." Wow.

4) Singapore's Accident Betting Website
Singaporeans go to great lengths to feed their frenzy for lucky numbers. Traffic hold up not because of an accident, but because of the motorists who slow down to take down the registration numbers of accident vehicles for their 4D bets.
Punters will also flock to remote parts of Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand to pray to deities for winning numbers, otherwise turn up at high profile funerals or murder sites.

Local comedy The Noose came up with an ingenious business idea of a website that captures this local culture. I believe it's merely a parody of a Singaporean's kiasu-ness, but will you be crazy enough to implement it? Sure make money one you know (if not winning money). Www.Geylangchecker.blogspot.com is also another ingenious website, except the lady behind it has a personal vendetta (boyfriend who cheated with a prostitute) and not making money out of it (kudos to her noble cause!)

What some see as crazy, others saw as genius.
