Month in Snapshots

Most weekends are pretty routine and habitual. Getting my 90 minutes of hot yoga, getting my hair treated at Hair Sciences, church and then meeting friends for lunch, dinner or coffee.

But some weekends are pretty special.

A friend introduced me to Little Myanmar here in Singapore! Little did i know that Peninsular Plaza located next to City Hall MRT has a thriving community there.

Store name: Yanant Thit Burmese 

He swears by the economy rice in the basement. Looking like a food court, each stall have their own designated sitting area. It's rowdy and boisterous with majority Burmese male workers eating or drinking (Myanmar beer is sold everywhere cheaply through the building).

It's pretty decent, much like Chinese food but different. Our dishes came up to $17.

We then explored the building to walk off the lunch.

The Burmese are not as friendly as the Thais found in Golden Mile. They dislike being photographed and will not hesitate to shoo you away. I was curious about various sundry shops rolling something into small leaves. Many Burmese men were buying them in little packets to eat, presumably. 

It seems like there are various spices rolled into it, a white glue-like substance is used to hold it together. I tried asking them what it was but i don't know if they can't speak English or they refused to tell me (maybe they're not supposed to sell?) 

However, it reminds me of India, where they also rolled spices in leaves as an after-dinner mint.

It took me some guts to eat it because when overseas, you're just extra cautious about food poisoning.

But i ate it, and then understood what it feels like to be a cow eating grass.

Minty with some sort of tobacco in it, it does make you a little high.

I don't know if what's at Peninsular Plaza is similar, but perhaps the next time i'll buy one to try.

Then, there are the very special weekends where I do adventurous day trips. It felt like a mini holiday just crossing the border. Newly opened, everyone is talking about Legoland. It was a simple straight forward drive from Tuas Link with clear signs directing to Legoland.

We got there at about 11.30 am, queues for rides only took an average of 15 minutes with many rides we queued only for 5.

I'm a theme park queen, i strategize around the theme park.

Taking center stage in Legoland, many small worlds are built.

The rides were decent fun for an adult, but i could do with a higher level of heart thumping adrenaline. Buying tickets online is cheaper, however they don't quite sold out at the counter either. The exchange rate within Legoland is the same as in Singapore, so there's no need to worry about currency.

Did not expect to see a g-string cladded Legoman!

 Everything is built with Lego, i worry i will start dreaming of Legoland that night.

All rides are now opened, and we spent a good 5 hours skipping kiddie rides, shopping in the store and doing a repeat of our favourite rides.

Thereafter, we used the GPS to drive ourselves to a seafood hawker like Newton Circus ( Jalan Sutera, Taman Sentosa, 80150 Johor Bahru) and parked ourselves there for the rest of the night eating crayfish and frog legs HALF PRICED, durian HALF PRICED, and getting a massage HALF PRICED.

We are very Singaporean.

That's what i do on a special rare weekend.

Month in Snap Shots

If you want to know how your date looks like without make-up? Take her to Pulau Ubin.

Pass! This means she'll be good to wake up beside. LOL

Oh, how nice it is to be out in the nature. We were stranded in the rain, survivor me found pen and paper to make playing cards! Heart Attack!! Coincidentally, one game and the rain stopped.

They tried to cheat the ang moh by quoting him $20!

Alas, that paper we used, was THE MAP!

The perfect pint of Heineken is to have 2 fingers of foam.

Frank Yu, Singapore's one and only appointed draught master who has gone all the way to Amsterdam, the birthplace of Heineken to train came to teach us the Heineken Star Serve!

Everyone's talking and blogging about Hermes Gift of Time at the old Tanjong Railway. I hope you visited it! Today was the last day.

 Pop up shops were there, including nostalgic items!

The pop up cafe was abit of a rip-off though. $8 for a hot dog without bun! The exhibit was beautifully executed and venue was awesome.

 Plenty of block busters to catch, but otherwise mucking around outside toilets!

 and showing overseas friends a good Singapore time.

 A good Singapore time includes a the Heineken Green Room Experience.

The best media press kits are Magnum where there's a soap shaped like a Magnum ice cream!

and the Heineken Star Serve which have MANY items perfect for my upcoming Mt Kinabalu trip. A haversack, a rain coat, headphone and portable speakers shaped like a Heineken can! Very cool.

 We visited a friend's gallery located at 28 Jalan Kilang. It is open to the public.

Selling for 28K.

 That's the Guinness record holder artist who did the astounding 3D art pieces above.

Month in Snapshots

February was eventful. I went on CNA to give my two cents worth about cheating spouses. The episode then replayed on loop at gyms and offices.

I saw myself while running on the treadmill. Call it self motivation.

Then there was Valentine's where an innovative choice of flower was delivered. It is still alive today.

Found a travellator in the new Asia Square mall that leads to..... a wall.

Found an activity to do with dates or friends.

How do prawns laugh? Hei Hei Hei (Hokkien for prawn)

I hope he falls in so there'll be some drama because when you aren't catching prawns, it's boring.

Catching prawns isn't as easy as it seems. You need to measure the line, adjust the line on the rod, trial and error before you can reap! Prices start at $18 an hour, $33 for 3. Everything is provided from the rod to the bait.

The satay and chicken wings at Hai Bin, Sin Ming Ave is pretty damn good!

Can't get any fresher than this! BBQ your catch on the spot!

How did your 2011 end? Mine was filled with office parties and office pressies.

Then there was Google's office opening.

Their office was awesome with a karaoke room, games room and even massage room!

Then there's Facebook who sent me a thoughtful gift that included a Facebook metal drink cannister in cool white and a gift card where i can donate to any charitable cause.

Their office is not as cool as Google's but a notch more than most.

I am not much of a party animal, the last one for the year was Puma Social.

The Christmas AND rainy season taught me there will never be gender equality. Men can't wrap presents like women can. They also cannot fold umbrellas like women can.

Singapore is so beautiful, i am proud of my country and government.

Christmas was spent cycling in the nature.
 

Where i saw Pumba in Chek Jawa, Pulau Ubin.
 

Then, spur of the moment, i booked myself a ticket to spend New Year in Taipei.

It wasn't a white Christmas, but it was close enough with bunny ears.

 I almost ate a penis, which is a popular street food in Taipei and

popped a fortune cookie on first day of 2012.

Come what May, 2012!

With the wits and the clothes on my back, my epitaph is mine to earn,

my legacy is mine to make.
