Welcome Our Baby Robert!

Hello, hello! It's been a week since I gave birth. I wanted to share in my blog how happy and how difficult it was to give birth... the second time around! :)

I gave birth last May 22 at 11:21 AM via NSD (normal spontaneous delivery). Everything happened just like 3 years ago (2010) when I gave birth to our firstborn Jethro. It was the same Wednesday night, and water leaked around the same time -- 1 AM. But this time, I was able to be calm and cool about it. I even put on my lipstick and some mascara :)) The same thing happened, we arrived at The Medical City 10 minutes after (there is no heavy traffic in Ortigas Ave. at midnight, luckily it happened around the same time like before). Before that, my mom and hubby were even able to order some food at Jollibee Drive Thru. So upon arriving at the hospital, I was able to still walk to the prelabor room as my only concern was amniotic fluid (AF) leak. Anyways, as soon as I got there, I was able to FB post to my mommy GT friends what's happening to me at that moment. The litmus test was done to check if it was indeed my AF, and it was. My contractions were irregular so they opted to do an "augmentation" (or induction of labor) so that my labor would progress further. And after a few minutes, I was wheeled to the labor room.
This is the fetal monitor. It measures baby's hearbeat, my contractions, along with baby's movements

The labor room doc did not proceed in giving me the oxytocin (hormone) in my IV yet as they noticed I was starting to have regular moderate contractions. I remained like that for about 6 hours, they kept on monitoring my cervix in terms of the measurement in centimeters by doing the internal examination (IE). Initially when I got to the prelabor room, I'm still 2cm and 60% effaced, after a few hours I got to 3cm and 70% effaced, forward to 7AM, I'm around 4cm and 80% effaced. They called my anesthesiologist as I was really feeling the labor pains. My epidural was put on around 8:30AM, and we have to wait until 10AM that my OB came, had my next IE and shocking as it was, it progressed to 8cm and 90% effaced. Baby was almost there! My pains are worsening even though they added more anesthesia because of the baby's head almost popping out of me. A few minutes later, my OB pronounced that I'm ready to give birth. 10cm, fully dilated cervix. I was wheeled to the delivery room ASAP.
Daddy took this shot in our room as soon as we're in

My delivery room experience wasn't as fun as my last time, I was in so much pain and then suddenly the anesthesia worked little by little. I can't feel a thing anymore, though there's little contraction pain that I feel. Whenever it happens, my doctors would tell me to "push", coaching me every 10-second count. 4 other contractions came and I pushed while my anesthesiologist finally helped me in pushing my baby... and at 11:21 AM, Robert came to this world at 6 pounds 7 ounces, measuring 49 centimeters. We did the "Unang Yakap" and latching so we could breastfeed as early as a few hours after labor. After that, they attached the Hugs and Kisses thing that would alarm every time my baby is near me or away from me. It's something new from The Medical City, to enable the mom and baby bonding and also to prevent baby thefts.

Welcome to the family, Robert!
The next stop was the recovery room. I was the only one there as the two other women in the labor room with me still haven't progressed with their labor. Afterwards, my baby came in, they had to keep us latching together as it is beneficial for breastfeeding, again. Then they moved me to another recovery room as we booked the superior room for our stay. My husband was allowed to come in, wearing a scrub suit and hairnet so as to keep sterility. He stayed with me and our baby for about an hour until we are both ready to go to our room. My son Jethro and my mom were both anxiously waiting for Robert's arrival. It was such a happy day for all of us. :)

Proud breastfeeding mommy! I'm wearing a Belly Maternity top
and a nursing bra from Tupperware brands.

After staying in the hospital for 2 and a half days, we were finally discharged. I was really feeling better on day 3. And yes, up to now I'm still exclusively breastfeeding my 9-day old son :D

Happy New Year! I just came home from Hong Kong and Shenzhen for our family trip. It did go well, but with PAL's delay on our flight back, it wasn't as good as my previous travels abroad. This was my 2nd time in Hong Kong and my first time in China. 2012 has been really good to me and my travels.

I have a draft post in my mobile phone I was composing from Hong Kong, but I wasn't able to upload it. I'll probably write a travel post later. I'm loving 2013 so far!!

As mentioned before, I have this Beauty List I have to accomplish for my makeup class tomorrow. I bought everything in one day via Purebeauty Serendra, Market! Market! Department Store and SM Department Store. I must say, SM really lives up to its tag "We've Got It All For You". Everything I needed was there. I bought some items at MUD because I thought we wouldn't go to SM anymore. I will also get a 15% off the MUD items I picked up due to my class.

All in all, I spent around 16,400+ pesos for my makeup class-- all beauty hauls including the makeup kit, fee for MUD's class, and other stuff. This doesn't include the makeup itself YET. I'm reserving another 6,000 pesos for it haha. My hubby said, I should continue this "hobby" of makeup cos I already spent a lot. :)) It's more expensive than my 30-session Japanese Module 4 class at UP Diliman starting this month. I hope I do enjoy makeup soon. I usually start something but not finish it. :P

Something from SM Dept. Store and Market! Market! Dept. store
Freebie from Sigma- Eyeliner brush
I also got my JAC Plus shipment #2 from US which was delayed by a week. This is my first ever Sigma Brush. The set's name is Mrs. Bunny and it's a vegan brush-- no animals involved. I'm not vegan, but I personally like the colors pink and blue, that's why I got it. It cost about 4,899+ pesos (120 USD something, without shipping fee within US). JAC's shipping and handling fee is the same as usual, around 802 pesos. My package was about 2 lbs just like the previous one.

Instruction card

This is the case. Pale blue bordering to grey

Essential Kit contains 12 brushes. It's so soft! I won't remove it from the plastic yet!

I'm done with it! :D

4300+ worth of haul from Purebeauty, Serendra. Left it there cos I'll go there tomorrow anyway

The Pursuit of Happiness

I recently attended a World Volunteer Conference (where I saw Jet Li) and it was like stepping into a motivational session. Many of the keynote speakers were sharing their story of how they have found their happiness through volunteering.

Jet Li shared that while he was making a lot of money and having all the women in the world, he wasn’t happy. He only found real happiness when he started to give. Thus he started the One Foundation and a slew of charitable acts.

Instantly, I felt rejuvenated and revived. I felt a huge urge to throw my worries and fears about making ends meet, go out, hug the tree and love the world.

Then I stopped, and thought, “Easy for him/her to say! He’s a multi-millionaire!”
Yet I guess, until we truly are millionaires ourselves, we won’t know if happiness is attained then.

How can we be happy without being rich?

1. Spend Time with the “Right People”
The people that make you happiest will generally be friends, family and romantic partners. Once out of school, guess where we spend the most time at? Work. Unfortunately, not many of us have a best friend at work, even rare that we like our boss.

Sounds like a bleak situation but here’s what you can do to increase happiness.

Avoid small talk. A related predictor of happiness is how much substantive discussion a person engages in, compared to small talk. Generally, small talk makes people unhappy, and often, work relationships involve a disproportionate amount of small talk. If you want to increase your happiness, it’s far better to find one or two colleagues with whom you can have a real discussion than to engage in small talk around the water cooler.

I had a colleague who sits in front of me. We became lunch khakis, and slowly over lunch we let each other into each's lives. Though i enjoy my workplace in general, having him as a best friend at work made it even better. No office romance occured.

2. Spend time on “socially connecting” activities
such as volunteering and spending time with friends. Work doesn’t count. Unless your job is particularly fulfilling and your colleagues are your best buds, work is not ’socially connecting’ and is generally one of the more unhappy parts of the day. Commuting is also gets high marks for making people unhappy.

Volunteering has been proven to be a good way to increase happiness.
Memory is important, because it helps us take an event that happened in the past and extend its ‘worth’ into the future.

3. Day Dream
This is my favourite! Research has shown that the part of the brain responsible for feeling pleasure can be activated just by thinking about something pleasurable. And we often enjoy the anticipation of something pleasurable more than the actual experience that we think is going to be so great. The most common example is vacation planning, which some find more pleasurable than the vacation itself.

4. Expand your time
No, this does not mean you have to find a warp in the space-time continuum (although it might help). Focusing on the “here and now” slows down the perceived passage of time, allowing people to feel less rushed and hurried. How can we do that?

Breathe slowly. Just for a few minutes. As the authors write: “In one study, subjects who were instructed to take long and slow breaths (vs. short and quick ones) for 5 minutes not only felt there was more time available to get things done, but also perceived their day to be longer.”
Volunteering makes it seem like you have more time. In general, spending time on someone else makes people feel like they have more spare time and that their future is more expansive.
Pay people to do the chores you hate. Activities that we choose to do generally make us happier than those that are obligatory. So if you can afford it, hire someone else to do some of the ‘obligatory’ tasks, such as cleaning the house. Then use the time you’ve ‘bought’ not to catch up on work, but to do something you genuinely enjoy.

I HATE doing the household chores. However, once i told myself it's actually not that bad. It's exercise = keeps me slim and i start DAY DREAMING that i am like Cinderella (the Prince will come some day), i actually enjoyed housework. It'll be another story when i get married.

5. Age changes the way people experience happiness.
Youths tend to equate happiness with excitement, but as people get older, happiness is associated with feeling peaceful. Young people get more happiness from spending time with interesting new acquaintances, while older people get more enjoyment from spending time with close friends and family.

So What Makes Old People Happy (according to Stock Images)?

1. Convertables

2. Scooters

3. Bike dates

4. Tag

5. Strawberries

6. Scarves

7. Computers

8. Getting their blood pressure taken

9. The phone

10. Boobs

11. Balls

12 Slides

13. Fitting Rooms

14. Light Bulbs

14. Lollipops

15. Needles

16. Bingo

17. Retirement

18. Feeling Young

19. Playing With Friends

20. X-Rays

21. Ear buds

22. Running In Water

23. Banging Gongs

24. Raising Their Hands

I’m Still Alive!

I was randomly walking (not really) to my next class (at 10 am) walking along Magsaysay St. near Ylanan Gym--and that's the fastest way to NCPAG. Suddenly, out of nowhere (not nowhere okay behind me) a motorcycle came rushing and beeping to the last minute. I didn't know the next events, but I realized I was down at the asphalt road, and the BLAG was my head. I got up instantly and looked around me. It all looked bleak and sepia-ish. Whatever. I saw a man and a woman hurrying to me and assisting me to the roadside, making me sit down and analyze what has happened. Oh yes, I had an accident.

An
Picture155.jpg?et=eroSUeHukCFSwc10Jql31w&nmid=0yway, that happened too fast. The next thing was I was at the UP Health Service (Infirmary) beside SC and I already had texted my mom and boyfriend about what happened to me. Ooh and they hurried up to rush to the ER to see me lying in one of the beds succumbed to nothing. :))

Upon arriving, my parents had arranged the whatsoevers with the UPD Police (thanks to them for the blotter report). They decided to bring me to The Medical City at Ortigas and together with my boyfriend, mom went to Prof Cuaresma to tell her that I can't come to class that day.

Photo1425.jpg?et=Zo8g%2BC%2C0mE%2Cjab6%2CeEvn0A&nmid=0 The ER people at TMC were so kind to assist me and bring me there immediately to have my X-ray and all. And so is my boyfriend who was with me the entire time. I didn't feel pain because he was there, duh. :))

I wanted to get myself some souvenirs for my first time at the hospital in an accident involving myself, so I asked the radiologist toPicture165.jpg?et=uqZOQ1A4P50b%2BVLJvr8Tqg&nmid=0 take a picture of me while I was wearing the hospital gown and all. :D

So there, I didn't look much of someone who had an accident that was grave or whatsoever. :) I was sorta hyped with what happened to me. I didn't get any trauma of Motorcycles but took this experience as a lesson for me: DO NOT BE STUPID WHILE AT ROADS OR PUBLIC PLACES!!
I end this blog post telling everyone my thanks for their concern and get-well-soon-wishes for me. :) I can now go to school tomorrow. The x-ray results say that nothing in my bones and skull were fractured and damaged. Just the muscular pain due to the impact of the epic fail. :))
