Valentine's Choice: Nando's gets chi chi

Almost every man say Valentine's overrated; flowers and meals are overpriced. While i agree and don't expect to celebrate Valentine's, i feel special dates like Christmas, birthdays and anniversaries make us pause amidst our hectic schedules and appreciate loved ones. Human's nature and being caught up in the rat race tend to make us neglect that bit.

However, going out for a nice meal don't mean spending a bomb! I absolutely love Nando's and i'm super pleased to receive their media kit announcing their all-new butterfly chicken breast meal!

Have you been to places where you pay top dollar only to have the food forgettable? For a much better deal, Nando's brings the bells and whistles of a fancy restaurant but only at a fraction of posh prices! Anything with foam on your plate is never worth paying for.

You can still have your hoity toity four-course menu by starting with wild mushroom soup as an entrée, the butterfly steak (chicken) as a main, sweet potato mash as a side then ending it off with dessert. There can even be a designer drink to sip with your little pinkie sticking out.

Make a date at Nando's. You can make reservations and for the whole month of February, the Butterfly Chicken Breast Meal Valentine's Day Set ($42) comes with 2 double-breasted butterfly-cut chicken steak (with 2 sides), 2 designer drinks and 2 single scoops of Ben & Jerry ice-cream.

I've already made my reservation at Nando's this Valentine's. Who says a girl can't make the first move? All set for a "chi-chi" gastronomic experience!

Boost that libido the Peri Way

It was a culture shock when i was working in a Chinese restaurant in Australia. The Caucasians will come in as a family or group but each order a main dish (sweet and sour pork, hot-plate toufu etc). coupled with a bowl of rice AND stick to that one dish they've chosen the entire night!

That's not how we Asians do Tzi Char. Meal time is about sharing dishes, we like variety and we also don't mind sharing saliva (we really ought to start using common chopsticks for mains).

Understanding Singaporeans well, where we love to have the best of both worlds, Nando's introduces the Altogether Now, a combination of the best 'appeteasers'- Spicy mixed olives, roasted vegetable dip, Peri-Peri hummus and warm pita. I thought i was in the Mediterranean!

Hummus with pita is very healthy by the way, i love hummus! Perhaps not a Singaporean's choice, but definitely ang moh jiak!

Indulge in Nando's guilt-free and choose their latest Algarve Salad,  a medley of rocket leafy greens, cashew nuts, marinated sun-dried tomato and feta cheese. Most salads offered elsewhere comes heavy with FATTENING dressing. The Algarve Salad comes with none! I didn't even realise it (because it doesn't taste awful), until somebody pointed out the balsamic oil bottle on the table which i was supposed to drizzle to my liking.

Same with the new Nando's Chicken Wrap, Veggie Wrap and Veggie Pita. It wasn't oily, without an ounce of mayo or sauce. None of the fattening stuff but you may choose to drown it in Peri Peri that has incredibly low kilo-joule count, virtually no fat or oil and is rich in Vit A, C, folic acid, potassium and magnesium.

Nando's New Cataplana Dishes

The trick to getting a girl’s attention is to not send a bouquet on Valentine’s Day but to send it a month after. Your stalk won’t get drowned out and you get to save 80% of the marked up price.

That’s what the cock at Nando's did.

He invited me down to try out his new Cataplana dish, complete with something to wear.

The pretty in pink Rosa Fresca is a frizzy (like Sprite) sweet bubbly minty designer drink created specially to completment the Cataplana recipes and ease the spice with its refreshingly soothing taste. What i liked about the designer drinks at Nando's are they are not too sweet despite how sweet it may look. A less guilty indulgence on a hot day!

Cataplana Originale, has mouth-watering BONELESS succulent chicken thighs with fresh grilled vegetables for a truly well-balanced meal. Cooked with Nando's to-die-for signature sauces, you can choose your level of heat. Usually, if it's just the quarter or half chicken i am having, i would go for super-hot. However for the Cataplana, i chose mild and i already found it spicy.

If you dislike the carrots, peas and capsicums, choose the Cataplana Porto. For mushroom lovers, there are generous servings or mushrooms instead of green and red vegetables. I prefer this. With olives thrown into the mix, there is a slight sour taste. The Cataplana Porto is also wetter than the Originale, due to the moisture in the mushrooms and olives when cooked.

A shell-like cookware traditionally made of copper, the Cataplana is unique to Portuguese kitchens and has been used for hundreds of years in developing flavours to perfection.

My weekend was splendid.

Singapore chose "HOT" as their favourite sauce and Nandos threw a peri peri Hot party at Sentosa.

Endless flow of booze, it felt like a beach holiday!

To show my love for Nandos, i got temporary inked.

CHICKEN BREAST!

Then it was to the Nescafe Happy movie. An inspiring film, Nescafe enlightens us on "What is Happiness". Will share that sometime.

There was free flow beverages and Nescafe, unfortunately it had no effect on my mum. Popcorn surely can't be missing from any movie!

Then there were raffle tickets for sale with many prizes sponsored by Nescafe and others. I heard almost everyone who bought a ticket won.

On Saturday, Nescafe also did a charity drive at Somerset 313 where they collected smiles for Operation Smile.

Celebrity Irene Ang also came to know how to be happy! Although i think she is already happy, she gives amusing motivational talks.

 Sunday was equally awesome with awesome hair by Phyto Hair Spa in Wheelock.

Then it was to a friend's surprise birthday party. She not only had a gift, i brought her happy child one too!

He totally appreciates the gift by reading in detail how to care for it.

 It's ingenious to have a projector at home. I'll have one when i grow up. Then can watch movies on large screen, MTV on large screen, KTV on large screens, porn on large screen.

We played Whitney Houston's MTVS for awhile.

The funniest is that the host bought Singlong the chilli sauce because he thought it sounded promising for a KTV night! Sing Long.
