My Home Spa

Being away from the convenience of Singapore means i CANNOT INDULGE IN MY MONTHLY SPA AND FACIALS! That, is tough. Here, a manicure starts from SGD 150!! So I came prepared.
The change in climate in the initial weeks have made me breakout, peel and develop dandruff. The breakout was salvaged by Porcelain Face Spa's Balance Essence. It really is a skin and ego saver, removing pimples without medication! It even hydrates my skin.

I was spoilt rotten by Phytho Hair Spa and Hairscience back home. Here, i maintain my hair spa with Silkpro Treatment Conditioner and Hair Tonic Concentrate. Silkpro has a new range with ingredients that seem to be pretty natural, chemical free. Do you know the one thing that Singaporean men fear the most? It is the loss of hair. NUMBER ONE FEAR.

It freaks me out whenever i comb or wash my hair. I drop alot of hair, so i googled and results say dropping 80 strands a day is normal. Especially if you have long hair, it is heavy (thus more hair fall) and it looks like alot in your hand because it is long. I confess, I have collected them in a day and counted them one strand by one strand. It is not severe hair loss (phew!).

But prevention can always start! The new Silkpro Hairvolution promotes balancing, strengthening and protecting the scalp to prevent hair loss.

My home spa also consist of Kneipp body scrub for the body and for the face, i love Khiel's microbeads facial scrub. You only need a 5 cent coin dollop. It is so fine, and it feels so good.

But first, i throughly remove any residue on my face with Porcelain Face Spa's make-up remover. I didn't know this before, but even if you do not have make-up on your face, you need to use one to throughly cleanse your face because sunblock can clog pores. Not Biore's Aqua UV though.

I then lay in a hot tub, with Porcelain Face Spa's Hydrocare paper mask on. Made from a bio-cellulose fabric that the salon launched in 2010 after research and lab work, it contours my face, while working to fight the signs of dryness and dehydration with ingredients like Sodium hyaluronate, lychee seed extract and fig fruit extract. It also has Vitamin E content that provides antioxidant protection and helps further nourish my skin.
Usually these paper masks always have an excess of mask serum in the pack. I either use it on my neck or i store it in a small container and use it for the next couple of days.

This is how i conduct my home spa, complete with lighting a scented candel and eating a scoop of ice-cream while my hair and face is being treated sitting in a bath tub!

Aware of the flood situation in Bangkok, i went prepared with Crocs that will probably float and water-resistant material bag. Speaking of Crocs, you wouldn't believe (so did i) that they now have a lot nicer designs. It's like the ugly duckling who transformed into a swan.

Because of its prettier designs now, i felt convinced to give Crocs a chance. It turns out to be a perfect pair of wedges, especially for travel!
 It is light.
As compared to my other pair that is 1kg! No wonder we always remove our shoes when stepping onto the scale for vanity's sake.

Before i get into the highlights of my trip, let me say i will not be buying anymore group travel deals! I felt so cheated by www.atcrazy.com

The latest group buying deal website to come into the picture, it is by Asia Travels. Which i thought is credible and trust-worthy for travel deals but i was wrong.

Catching the deal sometime in Sept, i read the fine print and thought i was making the right decision. It was $228 + $180 tax = $408 per person in total. I thought that was swell seeing that we take a proper carrier and 5 star accommodation. Also, i looked up the budget airlines and flights to Bangkok over the weekends can be exceptionally expensive, as much as $300.

Making sure that the fine print includes departure dates encompassing the weekends and favourable timings, i made the purchase. As soon as the deal was open for reservations, i called in to Asia Travel. THEY TOLD ME FLIGHTS WERE FULLY BOOKED.

I said, "how can that be! I must be one of the firsts to make a reservation and it's not as if you sold 3000 deals but just 156."

Steven then told me, "weeeell, if you want to take the first flight out/ last flight back/ weekend flight, you have to pay extra."

I was extremely displeased. Then the flood happened and prices dropped etc. Long story short, travel group buy turned out to be unwise.

I could have complained to CASE but just didn't want to go through the hassle, so i didn't let that dampen my holiday mood.
Took my mum as her birthday treat.
Bangkok to most Singaporeans is food, shopping and massage. I dragged my mum to a forensics museum.

Described by an ex colleague who was a former policeman, the route to location was a fairly complicated one where you have to hop onto a bus that won't stop, jump off a moving bum boat etc.

All i did was hail a taxi from my hotel in Silom, got the bellboy to give instructions (taxi drivers are not too good with English), set the meter running and soon i arrive all under sgd 4.

Address : 2nd floor, Adulaydejvigrom Building, Siriraj Hospital, 2 Phrannok Road
Getting there : Take cab (about 30 mins from Silom Road)
Opening Hours : Mon – Sat, 9:00 am – 4:00 pm
Entrance Fee : 40 baht (foreigners)

The building is amidst many buildings, the entire area is a hospital cum medical school i believe. Look out for a green sign indicating 'Museum' on the building as the taxi driver is unlikely to know exactly which building it is. This is not the usual tourist spot.
It's a pity that the text on everything was only in Thai. We could only observe and make up stories in our minds. The first hall was the most gruesome of all. Featuring deformed preserved real babies. Photos were not allowed and guards patrol the museums but i snuck in a couple. Although the thought of baby haunting did flash across my mind, i took the risk for the sake of story telling.
Having watched too much horror movies, i did not dare press my nose against the glass to examine the subjects closely. I was half expecting their eyes to flash open at me.

Then in the next hall, was like an exhibition of Faces of Death.

I did not manage to sneak pictures as the guard probably had suspicions of me and stuck close by. There were many death pictures, literally. Mostly pictures of murder victims or accident victims, here you can see photos of children crushed by machines, suicide bombers body blown to pieces, a dead body with tire marks (steamroller probably rolled over him), a victim with a severed head (train accident) and the likes.

There were rows and rows of physical skulls, one showing how a victim's fractured skull looked like when hammered with an object, another showing a clean bullet shot in from the left but where it exits through the right, it was a hair-line crack.

It was all pretty interesting, and alot more real than graphic effects in a movie. Alas, all description was in Thai. Then, there were also jars and jars of livers, kidneys, stomachs and body parts. My mum says they look like TUR KWA (pig's liver) and makes her want to eat 猪肚 (pig's stomach).

Well, both my mum and me happen to be Scorpios. We've dark minds.

I managed to sneak another photo and this was a preserved corpse of a rape murderer sentenced to death. Next to it was another preserved corpse who died naturally. If you look closely, there is yellow pus coming out from the rape murderer but none from the good guy. I suspect the rape murderer was sentenced to death via the electric chair thus the body reaction, explaining the pus.

You can buy postcards as souvenirs, and i can see there are many other sick people with such interests like me. They are EVEN SOLD OUT!
While you are there, take time to explore other mini museums around. They all have NO English translations, can be rather boring but still....

They have prehistoric exhibits (basically displays lots and lots of prehistoric rocks), parasite exhibits;this was closed. I visited Tokyo's one before but there was also no English translation! :( I gave up visiting the rest when my mum complained she was bored.

Then we got "cheated" at Sam Bun Dee Seafood Restaurant, a place a taxi driver recommended. 1 curry crab (sgd 50), chill prawns (sgd 66), tom yum soup (sgd 12) and kang kong (sgd 12) with rice and 2 coconuts came up to about $200 for 2!! Way too expensive for Thailand.

We didn't think it was anything amiss because my brother who frequents Bangkok did recommend to us about Sam Bun Dee that was supposedly cheap and good. When we returned to check with him, he mentioned we went to the tourist trap with the same name!
I only had 2 full days to spend in Bangkok, despite sleeping 3 nights there (grrrrrrrr Travel Group Deal),  so it was shop shop and shop.
I must say with that loot and 10 hours of walking on both days, my Crocs have served me well! My feet didn't ache one bit! Crocs may not have the best designs, but it has the best interests for our feet definitely.

I'm not quite sure why i'm uploading photos of my buys but i bet you would like to pry!
Spent both days at Platinum Mall, Thailand's largest wholesale center. The more pieces you buy from the same shop, you get the wholesale rate which could range from sgd 2-4 cheaper per piece. I bought accessories at $6-$8, most expensive at $20, watches at $14.
Shoes were $14-$16, with better designs and quality at $100.

If only i can fly like Superman.

My iPhone Case Journey.

With the recent furor as a food blogger, and the recent post on mobile applications that change the dating world, I thought I’d share these whacky cases.

Now, 5 million of the 7 million smart phones in Singapore are iPhones. What makes your iPhone stand out from every Tom, Dick, Harry on the MRT?

When i first got my iPhone last Aug (late adopter), i made mine stand out with this cover that looked like a manual out of a Kung Fu flick (SGD 3 from J8,Bishan). My mum says i looked like i am a country bumpkin from China with this cover but what does she know about pop culture!
This IS then obiang.
Zipping and unzipping it wasn't too user friendly, eventually i lost the case :"(
And i chanced upon this in Far East Plaza (SGD13).

Then it caught on and i started seeing many others using it.

Time to stand out further.

I've seen the calculator, chocolate bar and other similar around but i didn't find them looking real. Except the crayon one, it was kinda cute. I feel like a Kindergarten child, pubescent and nubile.

I wanted an edge. Then i saw this....
People judge me without knowing me anyway, i might as well warn them i am of explicit material and they better not come near me. True sign of a bad girl...

I didn't get it. I am really an innocent girl...despite writing topics like sex volunteering.

Then i saw this in KL and i bought not 1 but 4 to match my shoes.
I was COOL for 4 months until they started springing up in Bugis and Orchard.

I had to level up again.
I was honestly VERY tempted to buy this in Hong Kong (sgd 20), it reminded me of
I went back to the shop twice but decided against it because it would be really difficult to bring it around although it was an option to hang it around my neck like a senile old man.

Besides it didn't look really real, and i am all about authencity. If it's not real, don't do it...*cough* fake eyelashes *cough*

So, to level up my iPhone case and make it stand out among the crowd in the MRT...i found these...
The Japanese are perfectionist in making things and fake food is their pride and glory (all those window displays...). Each one individually hand-made, they don't come cheap (usd 50). A sign of wealth and foodie, these iPhone cases stand out.
Never go hungry with these! A good way to diet, you can stare till you're sick of food!
That is, IF you can ever stuff these sweet berries into your pants.

Smart phones are now used for spying and stalking. Perfect camouflage for the job! One for the army boys when you can't bring into camp camera phones. You risk being ridiculed for being a Mummy's boy for bringing in home cooked bento though! Or you could always say it's from your girlfriend and be the envy of hormone raging army boys.
We always know that lying is a no-no and it's a grey line with white lies. For the less endowed males, boast about the eel in your pants with this Unagi case!
And if you need to put out that fire in the pants?

Try the shaved ice.
The above cases can be bought at http://www.strapya-world.com/

P.S I'm kidding about being a food blogger, i prefer eating my food hot.

Join in the Converxation

Advertorial

If you

a) Find yourself home on a Friday, Saturday and Sunday (we’re not judging!)
b) Always wondered if you’re any different from society
c) Want to earn cash in less than 5 minutes

Join in the Converxation.

Converxation is a social-mapping platform that uses info-graphics called social maps to help you learn more about yourself and society. It analyse your responses to all the converxations to generate social maps.

How to Earn Cash in Less than 5 Minutes

1)

2)
With each questionnaire you do, you collect points that gets you one step closer to cashing out the accumulated pot. Of course I went for the questionnaires that offer the most points first.

Fabric Treatment – 100 points

It’s pretty amusing as I go down the list of questions. From participating, I realised that though hygiene is important, I don’t really care or want to pay extra for anti-bacteria clothing. I personally believe that the more terrified we are of germs, the more we are susceptible to it. I found it funny that one of the questions asked was ‘Do you have body odour?’ Who would admit to having body odour?! Then again, you are home alone, behind a computer; it’s ok to find out. So I scratched my armpits and sniffed.

Nope, I don’t have.

3) Get Assessed

It’s not just about mindlessly earning cash; it is also getting a personality assessment at the same time! Killing two birds with one stone, what better deal is there? Most surveys don’t tell you what it all means at the end of it. Converxation is for the intelligent participant. You don’t just answer questions, you LEARN about you. The Big 5 personality traits that measures my openness, conscientiousness, extraversion, agreeableness and neuroticism all seem pretty spot on!

4) Compare

Isn’t it in everyone’s nature to compete, compare, boast and share? You can do too with your Converxation survey results. Share them on Facebook and see how you measure up against your friends (you must first invite them to do the surveys and earn cash as well).

5)
So that’s how you earn cash in less than 5 minutes and you don’t even have to go to shower, doll up or go to work.

There is a launch contest going on at
1. Create an account at http://www.converxation.com/
2. Then go to launch contest at http://www.converxation.com/launch-contest
3. Complete 3 converxations (General Health, Life Satisfaction, Shopping Habits)
4. Guess $$ in the box (even if you didn't guess correctly, you still get up to 1000 points for participating!)
5. Stand to win more than $2000 in prizes.

The Phyto Experience

Here’s how I portion out my finances monthly. Half of it goes to savings (for rainy days and travel) and the rest is split up for other necessities. Shopping and beauty treatments are necessities. Like how men splurge on his car, women splurge on her body. Monthly maintenance on a woman’s image can be expensive, but mandatory.

Not everyone does it but I started caring for my body at 15. Looking good = feeling good = attracting opportunities in career, love and life.

However, if you’re a student or making ends meet; try home remedies to get the same effects. As a student, the only beauty treatments I get monthly without fail are facials. I do my own hair spa at home; get manicures and pedicures as a treat for special occasions.

Now that I am a working professional, my monthly beauty fixes are facials, manicures and a trip to the wax salon. A hair spa and a massage are indulgences I would like to treat myself to every 2 months. My hair is often neglected and it’s only recently that I start treating my hair with more TLC (tender loving care).

Better late than never, good thing I got the TLC started.
The Phyto experience was orgasmic. Facials are never enjoyable because of the painful extraction, waxing just leaves you squeaky clean and smooth, manicures make your nails look pretty for 2 weeks (only). All other beauty treatments are just part of the routine in making you look good, but getting a good hair spa not only makes me look good, but the entire process was mind-blowing (as I get my hair blowed).
After neglecting my hair and not knowing how to treat it right for so long, I met the consultant who set me right from wrong. She analyzed my scalp and dispensed the right treatment for it. There may be Yun Nam and all other haircare centers about, but I’d dare say if you’re paying big bucks for treatments there, you’re better off taking your dough to splurge at Phyto because not only do they treat you for hair loss, dandruff, oil and sensitive scalps, they do it the pampering way! I had a trial session at Yun Nam before and it is incomparable.
The Phyto experience is getting your own relaxation corner where you change into bathrobes (optional) and slip into slippers (optional), sink into an Osim massage chair, sip hot lemon honey (other choices available) and watch the latest movies.
My consultant deduced that I have an oily scalp, coupled with hormonal changes and stress, I get flakes (dandruff, yikes!). When the scalp is unhealthy (oil=clogged pores), over time it can create hair loss. She isn’t trying to scare me, but I do get flakes occasionally and my long and heavy hair do fall when I comb through (this is normal though however if you drop more than 50 strands a day, you ought to start panicking).
Thus she dispensed for me the Oily Dandruff Detox Treatment. My therapist set to work cleansing my scalp first with Phyto’s botanical extracts to prep the hair follicles.
An anti dandruff ampoule is then used and massaged (not a patronizing 5 minute, but a full 15 minutes at least) my head to stimulate better absorption and promote hair growth (ahhh….bliss).
Then, it’s the Oxygen Therapy – A 20-minute process that involves the opening of hair pores through the oxygen therapy, that aids in better penetration, detoxification and ensuring healthy scalp for healthier hair growth.

Prior to washing the scalp and hair, an aromatherapy oil massage will be done to the scalp, providing hair and scalp with the essential oils that will penetrate deep to work on prevention of dandruff and encourage growth. (Not complaining of the multiple massages in a day!)

After the cleansing and rinsing of hair and scalp, an anti dandruff ampoule will be massaged into hair, sealing scalp with the protective guard that aids in prevention of dandruff in both men and women.

Finally, the Infra-Red Treatment that uses low intensity light and heat to jumpstart sluggish follicles and even resurrect dead hair bulbs. It reduces hair loss, accelerate hair growth and even stimulate hair growth on hair bulbs that have been dormant. A mere 15 minutes under direct Infra-Red Light can yield instant significant results.
The entire process took about 2 hours and it kills two birds with one stone. Caring for your scalp AND scoring a 20 minute shoulder and hand massage. Two orgasms in a row! Can’t get any better than that!

The Phyto experience doesn’t just end at treating your scalp. It makes sure you step out feeling and looking like a million dollars. You can request to have it thronged or straightened, perfect for a hot date, company dinners or girl’s night out! I stopped counting all many birds I get to kill with one stone just by stepping into Phyto already.
Like Barbie with beautiful soft curls, I prance towards my hot date with Rob Schneider.
Thank you Phyto for giving me some TLC when I need it most! $208 worth spending.
